Nutritional Mealworm/Superworm Substrate

Updated: Aug 15, 2022

Here we will list what we used to make a super nutritional substrate that is in 3 layers for your mealworms and superworms.

Since using this mixture we have had an serious boost in our worm colonies reproduction as well they just do not die off as easily. They are super active and healthy!

What You Will Need:

  1. Corn meal

  2. TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) We Use This by Bob's RedMill

  3. Bobs Redmill Protein & Fiber Nutritional booster with chia seeds & Probiotics

  4. Oats for mealworms wheat bran for supers

Step 1: The Bottom Layer

grab whatever it is you will be housing your colony in (we use 3 drawer bins) and pour about half an inch to an 3/4 inch of cornmeal.

Step 2: The Bottom Layer pt 2 cause we aren't done yet

Add half a scoop to a scoop depending on size of your bin but for the small 3 drawer (which is a table top drawer) we use half a scoop and the Medium 3 drawer bin we use 1 scoop of the bobs redmill protein & Fiber Nutritional Booster and mix it all in the corn meal.

This is your little baby base layer.

Step 3:

Layer a thin layer of TVP above your corn meal. This will be your inbetween snackage layer that will maintain your laying and digging females and just all around "I Got the Munchies But I don't want oats" eaters.

Step 4:

Now Finish Off with your oats or oat bran for your adult beetles!
